Member Spotlight: eCommerce at Los Angeles Public Library
Library patrons are already familiar with the convenience of using their credit and debit cards to pay for things
online from retailers such as eBay and Amazon.com. Now, this convenient technology is available from the Los Angeles
Public Library as well. Last year, the Los Angeles Public Library began offering an eCommerce option to allow their
patrons to use credit cards to pay fines online and the program has been a huge success. The goal of the project was to
expand the Los Angeles Public Library’s Web-based services and self-services, and that has been achieved.
Not only does eCommerce benefit patrons who are paying fines online, it also
benefits those waiting in line for customer service since there are fewer people waiting.
Patrons are able to clear a delinquent blocked account from the convenience and anonymity of their home 24 hours a day.
The eCommerce module is secure, user-friendly, and uses SIP2 protocol to interface with the patron accounts. It is
also seamlessly integrated into the Los Angeles Public Library’s website so patrons may pay fines when they are in their
"My Account" area.
