Member Spotlight: Theatre at Newport Beach Public Library
The Newport Beach Public Library Board of Trustees recently announced that the library, in partnership with South Coast
Repertory (SCR), will host “Seasoned with Theatre,” a series of performing arts enrichment programs for young people beginning
this fall at the Library.
Sponsored by the Newport Beach Public Library Foundation and funded by a gift from the Argyros
Foundation, “Seasoned with Theatre” will include free performances, acting workshops, and “behind the scenes” theatre
activities presented by talented staff members and professional artists from South Coast Repertory on Saturdays from
September 2008 to May 2009.
According to Foundation Director Tracy Keys, participants will also receive books that correspond to SCR’s
family-friendly productions. “These free programs encourage young people to develop an appreciation for the performing arts,
as well as for the books that inspire SCR’s Theatre for Young Audiences series, Educational Touring Production, and annual
holiday shows. The library is the perfect place for a literary-cultural interaction to take place,” says Keys.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce young people to live theatre,” notes Library Services Director,
Cynthia Pirtle. “We are very fortunate to be able to tap into the talents of Orange County’s Tony Award-winning theatre company”
The first program in the series, “Acting Workshop I,” will be held on September 13 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the
Central Library, 1000 Avocado Avenue, Newport Beach. For a complete schedule of “Seasoned with Theatre” events or for more
