| How to Ride the Historic F-line Streetcar to the Sheraton at Fisherman's Wharf http://www.streetcar.org/msr/index.html From the San Francisco or Oakland airports, take BART to San Francisco and exit at the Embarcadero station. Look for the two-story elevators to the street level (the middle level is for SF's Muni underground trams). At the top of the escalator, you will see short white kiosks labeled "Muni" - this will give you a 25 cent discount on the trolley. The fare to Fisherman's Wharf will be $1.50 in cash (exact change only), or $1.25 with the coupon. Look for the station exit to Main Street and take the escalator. At the top of the escalator you will surface onto Market Street. You want to go east in the direction of the Ferry Building (look down Market Street and you'll see the famous clock tower). The Historic F-line streetcar runs up and down Market Street, but you'll need to get to the F-line stop which is an island in the middle of Market Street. You will cross 1/2 of Market Street - very carefully, as the taxis and buses are racing up and down Market Street. If you see a very big green advertising kiosk at the corner of Main and Market, you are in the right spot to cross. Look around the kiosk and carefully cross to the F-line island when the coast is clear. The F-line streetcar will eventually arrive and take you toward the Ferry Building. Ask for a transfer which is good for 90 minutes and is proof of payment. The first stop is 77 Steuart Street, where you will see the San Francisco Railway Museum on your right. The F-line will go down Embarcadero, past the port buildings and reach Pier 39 where most people will get off (tourists!). Continue one more stop to Mason and get off right in front of the Boudin Bakery & Museum, where you will return later on Sunday night for the ICOLC reception. Exit the streetcar and walk one block up Mason (away from the Bay) to North Point where the Sheraton is located. Welcome! To return to downtown San Francisco and BART, the F-line stops at the corner of Mason and Beach Street. This is also where you will get on the F-line to go to the baseball game on Monday night. Enjoy a video of SF's Historic Streetcars, including Line F- sung by Judy Garland! |
