3M

Please join us for a exciting presentation on 3M's latest library product innovations. We will be giving a presentation on our New 3M Automated Materials Handling System as well as our 3M RFID Tag Data Manager. The AMH presentation will also include information on how to determine your potential Return On Investment for AMH.

The 3M Intelligent Return and Sorter System is an affordable, efficient return and sorting system that automatically checks in and separates materials into up to 15 sort locations. This easy-to-use system includes RFID and/or barcode identification, RFID and/or electromagnetic (EM) security and up to four induction options, including indoor/outdoor and staff. Libraries can install a system that allows modules to be added as their capacity needs change. The system can also reactivate security strips and includes an optional receipt printer and two choices for the user interface on the induction unit.

The 3M Tag Data Manager opens the door to RFID interoperability. The 3M Tag Data Manager embedded in 3M RFID products (staff readers, self checks, hand held readers, self checks and automated materials handling systems, allows us to simultaneously read multiple (ISO Standard) tag data formats. Even if your library has competitive ISO RFID tags and products, the new 3M Tag Data Manager makes 3M an excellent choice for RFID tags and hardware.

The Califa group purchasing program has saved Califa Members over $100,000 on 3M products over the last year! Great products from 3M and great discounts through Califa.

We invite you to come to our sessions and learn more about our products.

Altarama

Reference/request management is more complex than ever. Do you have the tools to get it under control?
RefTracker is, simply put, the missing module, providing powerful tools for use in those parts of a reference librarians job that are the most time-consuming and error-prone, and the least satisfying, especially the practical challenges of request management. It is a comprehensive Web-based request management system that can replace unwieldy email reference systems. RefTracker can handle off-line completion of walk-up, phone, email, IM, test and chat sessions and provide comprehensive, integrated reference statistics.

Are you tired of spending half your time recording what you did the other half?
DeskStats is for those librarians who want real reference statistics; it’s a Web-based solution for capturing maximum data elements with minimum effort (a dozen or more data elements with a single click).

As your IM service becomes more popular have you found that due to the one-on-one nature of IM technology -- your quality of service is deteriorating? RefChatter is a Web-based solution built specifically for reference librarians who want to offer IM-based reference service, and have determined that single platform (e.g. AOL) and single staffer (e.g. Meebo) approaches just won’t do. Your patrons use their own familiar IM tools and features and any number of staff can use RefChatter concurrently, ensuring that any volume of sessions can be handled.

    Open Source Open Libraries

With the introduction of Koha and Evergreen, two new integrated library system (ILS) products, libraries have an opportunity to choose an ILS that is free, designed by the library community, and continually enhanced by the library community. The Open Source Open Libraries consortium was created to build awareness of these two free, Open Source Library System (OSLS) products and to provide support for libraries ready to migrate now.

During the presentation, participants will learn more about Evergreen and Koha and the differences between an ILS and OSLS. We'll discuss how the principles and practices underlying Open Source Software projects match the principles and practices underlying our work as librarians. In addition, a survey of other libraries that have migrated to an OSLS will provide evidence that it can be done, and show the range of support options and expanded resource-sharing opportunities that are part of making this choice. We will address the challenges and fears associated with moving to an OSLS, as well as the exciting possibilities.

At the booth, Matt Carlson (Evergreen Project Manager at kcls.org) will have the version of Evergreen currently in development at King County Library System up and running so that participants can come by to take a peek under the hood. We will also have a computer connected to a Koha demo server so you can test that out as well.

    Presenter: Lori Ayre

    Shoutbomb - SMS Notification Service

Libraries services are each tailored to provide information about available resources and keep patrons’ informed about their library accounts. Libraries have utilized available technologies and text messaging is a natural outgrowth of this continued march to harness available technologies to deliver these services.

To access Shoutbomb services a library only needs to subscribe and provide access to their network. The patron needs text messaging enabled as part of their service agreement with the cell phone provider.

Shoutbomb services include, but are not limited to:

Signup: opt-in registration process. Patrons choose what services to activate.
Renewal: a text is sent and a patron can respond requesting renewal of eligible items.
Courtesy: a text of items due back and eligible renewal is sent. No response is allowed.
Holds: a text is sent and a patron can respond requesting a list of holds available for pickup.
Overdue: a text is sent and a patron can respond requesting a list of overdue items.
Fee/Fines: a text is sent when fees or fines exceed a threshold.
Library Calendar Events: a text is sent a set time before the event of interest.
ISBN: a patron can send an isbn (10 or 13 digits) and they will receive a notification about available items. The notification will take into account their home library and other geographically ‘close’ libraries when searching for items. Depending on your available library systems, the patron can place an item on hold.

    Shoutbomb supports Spanish notifications.
